Food News Roundup
I told you the Cherry Blossoms take over the District when they come out. Even Macy’s is taking in a piece of the action. This Wednesday, April 6 at 5:30 pm, the Downtown store will hold its first Cherry Blossom Show “Towers of Flowers”. Chef Takashi Yagihashi will host a special cooking demo dedicated to the people of Japan who have been affected by the recent Earthquake and Tsunami (*donations to the Red Cross will be accepted there). Good time to snag some of those kitchen secrets from his restaurant, Takashi, in Chicago.
Yelp takes over District happy hours this week with 50% off speciality cocktails at some of the areas favorite drinking quarters. The Madhatter, SOVA and Perry’s make the roundup just to name a few spots participating in the week-long festivities. Yelp Drinks Week begins today (April 4) and ends Sunday, April 10.
OPENINGS
PAUL Bakery is slated to open on Monday, May 2 in Penn Quarter. 125 years, 500 stores and 25 countries later, the upscale bakery makes its way to the U.S. with the flagship store setting up shop in the Nation’s Capitol. Look forward to fresh, French bread daily.
Seasons 52 opens this week and of course, I got first dibs on the food to share with you. Perfect timing. As Spring trickles in and summer just around the corner, calorie counting starts right about now. Seasons 52 is a calorie counters dream. That is the calorie counter that does not want to sacrifice flavor and portion size. With nothing over 475 calories and each portion exceeding the one you see below, I think I might have yet another reason to make my way up Rt. 355 beginning this Spring. Ohh and for the wine lovers, Sommelier George Miliotes, is ranked #152 Master Sommolier in the World. Yeah, that’s a big deal minus the calories…
