Happy Monday

Finally a week that brings me back to a sense of normalcy.  Monday’s used to be reserved for telling JKGF readers about the best places to go for happy hour.  We’re back on that and this week we reopen with an unusual suspect in an uncommon territory for a DC resident.  Recently, I had the opportunity to visit the Phillips Seafood on Rockville Pike.  Total day/night difference between this Phillips and the one on the Southwest waterfront.  I expected this visit would teach me a little more about seafood and the like but I did not expect to stumble upon a $4 happy hour that runs from 4 pm-7 pm, Monday-Friday. Unimpressed?  Well, this is the part that made me raise the brow…happy hour is all day on Sundays.  A Sunday happy hour is unheard of in most of these parts.

My love of all things lobster is what essentially sent me up Route 355 in addition to seeing familiar faces such as Girl Meets Food and Lunching in the DMV.  It was a pleasant surprise, however, to meet Chef Mente ‘Arra’ Lawson whose food journey has taken him everywhere from a chef stint at Madison Square Garden to studying under the late great Jean-Louis Palladin.  After this meeting the Monday lobster special seems that much more enticing…and it doesn’t hurt that it’s within the budget, $19.99…
