Out and About…Last Weekend & This Weekend.

Last weekend was full of events, check it out:

Soul's Fried "Chicken"

The DC Green Festival raised my awareness of all things green and sustainable.  After surfing through rows and rows of vendors displaying everything from how to have an entirely environmentally friendly wedding to paper made of elephant dung (elephant poop), I discovered how much I did not know about saving the environment.  Of course the environmentally friendly food captivated my attention specifically Soul Vegetarian Restaurant and Exodus Carry Out, which was on-site serving up vegetarian soul food.  I went for the fried chicken with a smirk and left with a “I may start eating this instead of the real thing” kind of look.  The runner up in my food favorites came from the Really Raw Honey company, which was offering miniature containers of their product for $1.  This festival has officially been added to my annual list of must sees during the year.

Fuego Cocina Y Tequileria opened its doors this week and what better way to get things started than with tequila and tacos for everyone?!  Chef Jeff Tunks will lead the pack in creating traditional Mexican cuisine alongside chef de cuisine, Alfredo Solis.  The casual dining scene is reminiscent of times spent in an old cantina in Mexico City with contemporary tones.

Last Exit's Flatbread

Last Exit launched their new fall menu and the cocktails are the true stars of the show.  For the grown man buzz, go for the Fizzz.. Bang!, a combination of Old Overholt Rye Whiskey, Fernet Branca, Gosling’s Ginger Beer, egg white and fresh lemon.  For your adventurous side, try the Beatrice, which is Beet & ginger infused gin, Dolin Rouge Vermouth, fresh lemon, Bitter Truth Jerry Thomas’ Own Decanter Bitters and celery bitters.  Try their new cocktails at their upcoming Masquerade Ball on October 31, 2012, from 8 pm- 11 pm.  More info @ www.lastexitdc.com/events.
