Happy New Year!!

NYE 2014 is just over a week away!  I had the opportunity to check out the goods at The Grill Room at Capella in Georgetown and they have everything to make an epicurean New Year’s Eve a success.  Sea Urchin, Black Truffle & Parmesan Gnocchi, Butter Poached Maine Lobster and American Wagyu Tenderloins line the menu that has stolen my heart for the New Year.  Taittinger Champagne and Canapes play supporting roles in the celebration.  With a menu like this, my curiosity led me to scout out some other places celebrating the year 2014, here’s what I found:

Capella Hotel in Georgetown is offering an all-inclusive starting rate of $999 for two guests that includes the following:

Dolce Vita, 10824 Fairfax Blvd., Fairfax, VA is ringing in the new year with a five course Italian menu, champagne toast, music and dancing. Seating for the New Year’s Eve celebration is at 9:30 PM. The cost is $59.95/per person, plus tax and gratuity. Call for reservations: (703) 385-1550.

Poste’s Executive Chef Dennis Marron plans to prepare a New Year’s Eve “Odds and Ends” dinner, a unique Offal tasting menu for those who like a little adventure added to their holiday eve. Jackson 20:Jackson 20 will host New Year’s Eve Brunch from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
On New Year’s Eve, Jackson 20 will be transformed into a 20’s fete with pre-prohibition cocktails, music and a menu inspired by the era. Guests are encouraged to dress in costume —the staff will be getting in the spirit as well, and there will be a 15% discount to reap for those who dress up! Firefly:Firefly will offer a New Year’s Eve brunch, including Biscuits and Gravy with black pepper thyme biscuits, sage sausage, white gravy, plus $3 Mimosas and $4 Bloody Mary’s; the perfect fortification for the night ahead, from 9 a.m – 2 p.m.  Firefly will host a special New Year’s Eve dinner, for those wishing for a “no muss, no fuss” New Year’s Eve celebration. Featuring an a la carte menu and elevated dining specials from Executive Chef Todd Wiss, the evening will include a complimentary champagne toast and party favors for all. The Grille at Morrison House’s Executive Chef Brian McPherson has concocted a “Menu for a Lucky Year” New Year’s Eve dinner ($95 per person) with menu items including Eco Friendly Slow Cooked Pork Belly with persimmon butter, tatsoi and tapioca pearls and a Dry Aged Local Farm Strip Loin with white alba truffle, mushroom tagliatelle and a demi glace. New Year’s Eve, Pearl Dive Oyster Palace will take reservations in their dining room, starting at 5:00 p.m, with a final seating at 10:00 p.m. In addition to the regular dinner menu, Chef de Cuisine James Huff will offer specials including a scallop and braised short rib duo, lobster pot pie, and a raspberry and champagne trifle. At both Pearl Dive and upstairs at Black Jack, Veuve Clicquot will be available for $15 by the glass, and $75 by the bottle. Pearl Dive will open for drinks at the bar at 4:00 p.m., while Black Jack will open at 5:00 p.m. for the evening, with no cover charge, and DJ Marvin Lopez, also known as “The Clown Prince,” will spin dance tunes all evening.On New Year’s Day, Pearl Dive will serve its regular brunch menu from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., as well as a hangover special for those who overindulged the night before, featuring a Shiner Bock and a Dive Burger (a double patty burger with roasted green chilies, pepper jack, bacon, and cayenne aioli) for $10. At 12 Midnight, guests dining at all three Jaleo locations will offer a celebratory glass of cava to toast the New Year.  Following the Spanish New Year’s Eve tradition, guests will also receive 12 grapes for good luck.  A live DJ will play continuous music beginning at 10:30 p.m. at Jaleo DC, and a live band will play beginning at 10pm at Jaleo Bethesda and Jaleo Crystal City.  The celebrations will continue until 2am. Oyamel Cocina Mexicana invites guests for an enchanting Mexican New Year’s Eve. From 5 p.m. to 11:30pm, guests will enjoy a five-course prix-fixe antojito menu priced at $78 per person (tax and gratuity not included).  Live music will usher in the New Year beginning at 10:30 p.m until 2am. Zaytinya’s New Year’s Eve lively celebration will feature party favors and a DJ counting down to midnight and keeping guests energized and dancing into the New Year. There will be two seatings offered. The first showcases Zaytinya’s regular mezze menu with additional New Year’s Eve specials available from 4:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.  The second seating, from 8:45 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., will offer two special chef’s menus- a five-course Zaytinya Classics prix-fixe menu priced at $65 per person (tax and gratuity excluded), or a five-course Chef’s Experience tasting menu for $85 per person (tax and gratuity excluded).  Both menus include a complimentary glass of sparkling wine for midnight toasting. In the Dupont Circle neighborhood, Agora, located at 1527 17th Street, NW, 20036, offers guests signature Turkish and Greek cuisine this New Year’s Eve with two seatings available. From 5 p.m. to close, guests can select dishes off the a la carte menu or enjoy a three-course, prix fixe New Year’s Eve offering.  Then, starting at 9 p.m., guests can enjoy exclusively the prix fixe menu, which is priced at $75 per person or $110 with wine pairings (tax and gratuity not included).  The a la carte menu will be available on the second floor.  Revelers dining after 9 p.m. will receive a complimentary Champagne toast at Midnight.

Daikaya, the popular 90-seat izakaya located at 705 6th Street NW, 20001, is offering bountiful small plates with a Japanese twist on New Year’s Eve.  Daikaya’s Executive Chef Katsuya Fukushima’s celebratory meal can be enjoyed with two seating options available.
