Shake Shack

My hiatus from the burger world needed to end and I suppose that’s how I ended up at Shake Shack on a random Thursday night.  After taking in enough Vesper’s at the Dirty Bar, I crossed the street to soak it all up.  The Shake Shack is yet another venture within the District that comes from the Big Apple.  Located in the center of the bustling Connecticut Avenue intersection that connects Dupont and Farragut North, the burger joint typically has a line flowing outside the door.  Lucky for me on this particular night, people had not emerged from their respective watering holes so the line was pretty short.

The first time I visited Shake Shack, it was pretty much under the same circumstances except by the time I got home, I was so tired, I did not take one bite from the acclaimed ShakeBurger.  The next day when hunger hit, however, I dove in for what would be one of the best leftover burgers I have had to date.  On this particular visit, I was fully alert, no fatigue in sight and ready to feast on the cheese fries and the single cheeseburger.  The last time I saw crinkle fries was probably in my high school cafeteria so I was not pleasantly surprised to see these on my tray at Shake Shack.  Ironically, they did not disappoint especially when paired with the Shack’s combo of cheddar and American cheese sauces.

Besides being my new fave post-watering hole spot, I love the fact that Shake Shack makes all their burgers medium (*unless otherwise requested). I believe this is the reason it worked so well as a morning after treat where the meat was not overcooked in the first place.  With a long list of burgers, hot dogs, fries and milkshakes (*not to mention beer and wine are offered…), the Shake Shack stands out as the ultimate burger joint.  I’m usually not as excited about restaurants that migrate to the District from another major city, but I cannot help but get excited about the fact that I won’t have to wait from my next trip to NYC for a taste of the Shake Shack
