So the (Last) Week Begins…

Mary Beth Albright's Grilled Steak Sandwich

This past week was insane.  Insane might be an understatement considering my recap of all that happened:

1. the Metropolitan Cooking Show,

2. a Wine tour of Virginia’s Wine Country,

3. a trip to a mall restaurant where local ingredients are a must,

4. a secret cocktail event that landed me behind the bar, and

5. to close things out …the Capitol Food Fight and afterparty…

Insane.

The Metropolitan Cooking Show was a day filled with food, spice and wine vendors at the Washington Convention Center.  There were also food demos which featured some of the food industries top names including Paula Deen, B. Smith, Guy Fieri and Mary Beth Albright.  The day was not all about food, there were personalities such as Cheryl Najafi to teach you how to table scape during the holidays.  To everyone’s surprise, the Vice President’s wife, Jill Biden was also on the scene to make some remarks on food health and to introduce Guy Fieri.  With all this excitement going around, it was kind of hard for the first time in my life, to focus on the food.  There were plenty of ways to fill your stomach, however, with the various sauces, bread pudding, soups, spiced peanuts and many more options.  I decided to spend most of my time sucking up all the cooking tips I could get from the activity on the stage.  Here’s a visual recap of the day:

Guy Fieri

Cheryl Najafi

B. Smith with her new cookbook "B. Smith Cooks Southern-Style"

Jill Biden

Paula Deen

And this is just the beginning of last week.
