Dogs + Dessert = the BEST things in life

[ 2 ] February 11, 2013 |

On January 31st I had the pleasure of attending the 12th annual Sugar & Champagne shindig downtown at the Reagan Building that recognizes, supports, and benefits the Washington Humane Society.  Chef Todd & Ellen Gray of Equinox host this celebration to honor those here in the area who have done an exceptional job of supporting the Humane Society’s services & programs, as well as positively impacting the lives of animals in the District. The recipe for this successfully fun evening was as follows: take chefs from the best restaurants all over the DC/MD/VA area and put them at different tables in two large reception areas to provide all of the attendees with two receptions: a VIP savory shindig and a dessert shindig, add bottomless cocktails and sparkling wine, and top it all off with dogs of every shape and size imaginable walking around with their owners. I conveniently “dragged” one of my friends along with me, and being the true food & dog lovers that we are, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

1789, Old Angler’s Inn, Marcel’s, Salamander Resort & Spa, Equinox, Founding Farmers, Good Stuff Eatery, and 2941 were among a plethora of other restaurants serving the guests. Awards were given out to the honorees, and then the bidding began on specialty cakes (some resembled dogs!) that had been made by Sticky Fingers Bakery and a couple other bakeries in town. As a big supporter of the Washington Humane Society and overall animal lover, I’m most likely going to end up making this event a priority to attend in the following years. My only goal is that by this time next year I’ll have my own little pooch to bring along with me for the festivities.
