It’s the Weekend…

Yup, these are the last days of warm weather so let’s enjoy.  While lining up your list of activities for the weekend, here are a few food ventures to partake in before the cold front sets in:

>>>The DC VegFest is my top pick of the weekend and I’m not even vegetarian!  Reasons I think even the most carnivorous eaters should attend:  FREE food samples, Meat-free cuisine from some of the region’s best restaurants, Cooking demos, Dozens of educational booths (*learn something!) and Shopping (*Commercial vendors will be on site).  The first 400 visitors will also take home a commemorative tote bag filled with food samples, coupons, and information about vegetarian eating.  With the schedule I’m working under this week, I should be there around person number 375…

The Where:  University Yard at George Washington Univ. (2000 block of H. St., NW) in Washington D.C.

The When:  Saturday, September 11, 2010 from noon to 6 pm (*Rain check date is Sunday, September 12, 2010)

>>>Eat Wonky has hit the DC streets.  I’m absolutely smitten with these traveling street vendors springing up around the District.  EatWonky is the newest member to the family and they serve up poutine and hot dogs.  I know, I know, hot dogs?!? Every food stand does that?!? Noo, think jazzed up hot dogs with poutine, cheese, basil and crushed red pepper just to name a few of the toppings.  Yaay for food that truly feeds my cheesy soul!

>>>Vapiano’s Bethesda has opened its doors.  Ok, so I went to Vapiano’s three times this week for lunch and I could go again today.  Does this speak to how I feel about this place?…Check it out for happy hour, the specials will quench your thirst and the food will soak up all that is alcohol…

>>>Talk about veteran affairs…Taberna Del Alabardero, after 21 years since its opening, begins Spanish Style Brunch this Sunday, September 12, 2010.  Brunch will run from 11:30 am-3:30 pm every Sunday featuring classic Spanish brunch dishes highlighting the various regions of Spain each week.  This week starts with the region of Galicia.  I can attest to this menu…this is authentic Spanish brunch and I know because the last time I had a morning like this, I was in Madrid.

Extra Details:  $38 for Adults, $19 for children under 12 and the first glass of Sangria is complimentary

>>>Fashion Night Out is tonight and if you have not secured your locale for the night, then you might want to think about starting the evening @ Morton’s in Georgetown.  Morton’s invites guests to visit the restaurant from 6 pm-11 pm for hors d’oeuvres, drink specials and a silent auction featuring pieces from participating neighborhood boutiques.  Tonight merges my two loves:  fashion and food.  *Geeked* (*Translation:  Excited, Ecstatic)

Wow, you found a place that serves poutine in D.C.?!?! Wish I knew about that when I lived there. Poutine is practically the official dish of my home province, Quebec. Then again, it’s probably better for my health that I didn’t know about it until now!

LoL, Yup, they just moved here. I almost wish I did not know about some of the food I know about around here…it would save me a few thousand calories!
