Diep 9 has added some new things to the Genever family: Diep 9 Old Grain Genever and Diep 9 Young Grain Genever are unflavored and contain 35% alcohol by Volume, boasting “true” Genever.  Diep 9 has stepped out of the Belgian market in D.C. and expanded its sales in DC, VT, MA and RI…kudos!

A new way to eat: Feastly, an online marketplace that connects cooks with adventurous eaters, recently launched.  The concept is grounded on passionate cooks preparing homemade meals for the eaters at the cook’s home.  Get more info here.

Hello Cupcake keeps it fresh with their newest cupcake addition, DC Love Child.  DC Love Child is the first cupcake in the District to combine DC craft beer with chocolate cake.  The cupcake is finished off with a bourbon buttercream frosting and tipped off with a chocolate covered potato chip. Yum.

Girl Power!  The most popular young girls organization, The Girl Scouts of the USA, are set to celebrate their centennial anniversary.  Alongside the celebration, the Girl Scouts are launching ToGetHerThere, a campaign dedicated to girls’ leadership issues.  Congressional leaders Nancy Pelosi and Donna Edwards are among the Congressional support for this campaign to promote girls’ leadership.

Catch Me If You Can

This week I had the opt to hang out with one of my fave food bloggers, French Twist D.C., at Zengo for the launch of their new Shanghai-San Paulo fusion menu.  Pomegranate Kumquat cocktails, Picahna Steak topped with King Crab and Coconut Batida’s made for an excellent way to dine in D.C. on a random Wednesday night. #lovetherandomness

If you have a pet and you have not heard about the Annual Sugar & Champagne event, then today is your lucky day.  The 11th Annual Sugar & Champagne Affair will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building on February 1, 2012.  The event honors the following organizations against animal cruelty: Washington Humane Society’s Humane Law Enforcement Officers, Animal Control Officers, and Humane Educators.  The areas top pastry chefs and restaurants will be on hand serving up gourmet desserts alongside plenty o’ champagne, hence the name “Sugar & Champagne”.  As delightful as it is to indulge in all things decadent and bubbly, the real benefit here is the fact that all of the proceeds directly benefit the animals and programs of the Washington Humane Society.  Today may be your lucky day because I have two (2) tickets up for grabs for two (2) of my lucky readers to attend the affair on February 1 alongside yours truly.

How to enter: Like my Facebook page here and share this giveaway with your friends on Facebook.  Two (2) winners will be chosen @ random on Thursday, January 26, 2012.  *Bonus* Follow me on Twitter @jknowsgoodfood, tweet me your favorite pet name and you are automatically entered to win a Two for One Muse at the Corcoran Gallery of Art Brunch card.

Don’t want to play the giveaway game? Simply purchase tickets here or you can make a donation here.

P.S. Dog lovers, feel free to bring your dog, leashed pets are welcome (*No retractable leashes).

Sweets on a Stick Cookbook

As the New Year rang in, I was quoted saying “out with the old, in with the new” except where it comes to my giveaways.  Being a lover of giving, I end my first week back from vacation with a giveaway.  If you read the blog, then you know how I feel about sweets except when it comes to the few exceptions that make sugar an unmistakably desirable treat.  One of those desirable treasures comes in the form of cake pops, which I had in lieu of the typical birthday cake last year.  Since I’m good for jumping on the trend before it totally takes over, I wanted to share the dream cookbook for those who share in my cake pop obsession.  Sweets on a Stick contains over a 100 recipes devoted to all formations that can be placed on a lollipop stick.  Sweets on a Stick features all forms of the treat from Gumball Pops to Boston Cream Pie Pops.

Simply “Like” my Facebook page found here and you’re entered to win the Sweets on a Stick cookbook.  A winner will be chosen out of the new “Likes” by random drawing @ midnight on January 20, 2011. Good luck!

‘Tis the Season

Johnna knows good food and she also knows when she needs a break.  For the next two weeks I will take in all that is a vacation (*if you can call it that where I will still check emails…).  A much needed vacay is here and to launch the next two weeks of mindless DVR’d television, I have the results of one giveaway and have another one that will expire TODAY.

WINNER’S CIRCLE

The 2nd Vapiano giveaway winner is…drum roll please…I Choose the Sun!  The winner will receive a $25 gift card to Vapiano. Congrats!

LAST CALL

Starbucks Reserve Sun Dried Ethiopia Harrar Coffee

Now for JKGF’s last giveaway of the year.  The next two weeks will be strenuous with celebrations, family gatherings and plenty o’ shopping.  Strong coffee is on the radar for all this activity and I have the solution: Starbucks Reserve Sun-Dried Ethiopia Harrar coffee.  Simply comment below and you are automatically entered to win an 8 oz. bag of the coffee (*Two bags are up for grabs).  Giveaway ends tonight and the bags will be shipped out by early next week.  Good luck!

This is the eating season.  That’s no secret.  It’s almost as if people plan to gain weight around this time of the year just to make the typical resolution to lose it all in the New Year.  Well I’m here to help with the gaining part by none other than filling your bum with plenty o’ pasta, pizza, salads, etc.  Yet another giveaway, in light of my holiday cheer, for one lucky winner to get a $25 gift card to Vapiano.

Today and for the next seven days, please share your New Years Food Resolutions, please note “food” is the key word.  See where I’m going with this? OK, if not, here’s mines: I plan to cook in my own kitchen at least once a week in 2012.  I know this sounds like a no brainer for many, but for yours truly, my kitchen has slowly began to collect dust as I take over the DC Restaurant scene.  This year I start anew in more ways than one.  Send me your food resolutions by December 21, 2011 and a winner will be chosen at random to receive the funds. Go!
