Etiquette Tuesday: Long Time, No See

A couple of Tuesday’s ago, I spoke to you about too much service, today I talk to you about too little service.  This past weekend, I visited a spot I had not been to in ages.  From what I remembered about the spot is that it had attentive service and an exquisite braised lamb.  Well, let’s just say things have changed.  Service was below sub-par and the food tasted more like rubber than the succulent bits I had feasted on earlier this year.  Sucks.

The service was the real bombshell, however, because the server was non-existent during our meal.  I almost felt like asking the manager if it was ok for me to go and grab what I needed from the back.  When the waitress did make her way over to our table, she was pleasant but this did not make up for her lacking presence.  “Where have you been??”  Tips, people!  A tip is a kind gesture for you providing guests with an average to above average dining experience.  If my throat is dry from no water refills or I’m starving because I had to wait 30 minutes to order my entree after the bread, then you have not done a job worthy of a good tip.  It’s simple:  just make sure the food and drinks are rolling.  Even with a Coke and a smile, it is bad etiquette to keep your guests waiting for too long…

    So annoying!

Are they under new management? (That’s usually the start of an establishment’s downfall.)

  2. Johnna says:

Did not think about that (*new management), that could definitely be the reason behind the lack of good service on this trip…Thanks!
