Etiquette Tuesday: Let’s Talk About…

[ 0 ] August 3, 2010 |

I love Tuesday’s.  It is the one day of the week where I get to vent out my frustrations of bad dining/drinking/just bad etiquette.  Surprisingly, I witness quite a bit of bad etiquette *smh* (*Translation:  shaking my head).  This week I’ll get straight to the point:  If the whole table can’t hear about it, don’t talk about it.  Ever been out with people that might share a tad bit of a deeper relationship than you do with either of them?  Of course, they share memories, stories and dramas of the past that you might not relate to, but does this mean you get left out of the conversation??

Hmm, this Etiquette Tuesday is devoted to dinner time conversation.  Keep the conversation to a topic that everyone can enjoy and participate in…sharing secrets over the table is just as insulting as reaching across the plate of the person beside you for the salt.  Speaking as the person who was the outcast, it makes you feel isolated and not a part of the whole dining experience.  If I wanted to eat alone I would have opted for that but I decided good company was needed.  Good company does not mean I want to feel like I’m on somone else’s date or intruding on a best-girlfriends/guy friends meeting…leave the secrets for the private sessions and while at dinner with the group, let’s talk about food, politics, sports, celeb gossip, a new china pattern…something we can all revel in, you got me??
