Where to Eat in Door County?

Recently, I told you about Wisconsin’s Door County and why families who love the outdoors in the D.C. area should visit here.  I would be remiss if I did not tell you what to eat here.  Cherry pies, ice cream and Swedish treats (yes, Swedish) will make sure you and the family are never hungry and pleased.  Below are four places to taste test on a visit to Door County.

1.       Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant:  The Swedish culture in Door County is apparent from the time you get here until you leave because everyone is talking about it.  Between having one of the best Swedish restaurants I have ever visited and hearing about how Sweden became deeply engrained in the culture here, you will crave Swedish pancakes with lingonberries and want to find more goats to graze with on a rooftop.

2.       Wilson’s Restaurant & Ice Cream Parlor (Ephraim):  A good ol’ fashioned diner featuring old-fashioned sodas, ice cream specialties and home-brewed draft root beer, Wilson’s is an icon in Door County.  It is easy to see why especially after you have tried one of their ice cream specialties and/or their fried cheese curds (*when one is in Wisconsin, one must have cheese curds).

3.       PC Junction:  Your basic burgers, chili and fries can be found at this restaurant.  The draw here is the entertainment for kids, who will be excited to find their food coming out on a train that rolls around the bar.  This is the one place where it is totally appropriate, if not encouraged, for kids to sit at the bar and take up most of the seating. 

4.       Door County Ice Cream Factory:  Love the story behind this place.  The owner, Todd Frisoni, brought this shop from the owner who was his mentor, John Blossomm III, when he was only 21 years old after working here during the summers.  Talk about ambition.  The ice cream is made fresh and features over 30 flavors, which can be served via milkshake, cone, etc.
