Summer Restaurant Week 2018

The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW) will host Summer Restaurant Week, August 13-19, inviting participating restaurants to offer three-course lunches for $22 and three-course dinners for $35, excluding tax and gratuity at each location. Select restaurants including 701 Restaurant, All Set Restaurant & Bar, Ambar, Ambar Clarendon, BABA, Bibiana, Bindaas Cleveland Park, Bindaas Foggy Bottom, Bombay Club, Buena Vida, The Oval Room and SABABA will be extending their offerings through August 26, allowing more time to enjoy the summer savings.

All proceeds from all Ben’s Chili Bowl’s on Wednesday, August 22nd will go to the Ben’s Chili Bowl Foundation.

All Things Gelato Comes to the District!

Gelato Festival America is back and it is headed to D.C. The Gelato Festival America in association with Toscana Promozione Turistica Agency will spread awareness of real Italian artisanal gelato through a contest in which gelato artisans and chefs will compete with original gelato flavors they have created for the event.

The ticket is an all-access pass to all of the activities and reserved events of Gelato Festival America 2018, listed below.

? Attend the Gelato School, where award-winning gelato artisans and experts will share what it takes to be a gelato chef and professional

? Participate in the Gelato Eating Contest, where the five people to eat five cups of gelato the fastest will win a gallon of gelato.

? Serve on the Kid’s Jury, where children have the opportunity to question the chefs and vote for their favorite flavor.

Tickets are $30 for adults, $25 for seniors (65+), $25 for kids (3 to 12 years old), and free for children under two years old. Those who purchase tickets for Gelato Festival America online in advance receive a discounted price: $25 for adults and $20 for seniors and kids (must show ID at the gate.). Presale tickets can be found online at gelatofestivalamerica.com/ticket and on Eventbrite. Tickets will be sold at each venue as well.

3rd Annual MetroCooking Show

The 3rd Annual MetroCooking Show returns this winter. “At the James Beard Foundation Cooking Stage will be an all-star lineup, including Lagasse, and Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington RAMMY award-winners and local DC area chefs including Scott Drewno, co-owner of RAMMY “Best New Restaurant of the Year, CHIKO; Amy Brandwein, RAMMY “Chef of the Year”, from Centrolina; Erik Bruner-Yang, of Maketto; Vikram Sunderam of Rasika and Bindaas and Michael Schlow of The Riggsby and Alta Strada along with other regional Beard honored winners and nominees. In addition, chefs from Sur la Table will lead hands on cooking classes.”

Events to look forward to during the Annual Show include a two-day Beer, Wine & Spirits Garden, with craft beer, specialty wines and spirits. At the BBQ Bash on Saturday, December 1 attendees will find the area’s top barbecue restaurants and pitmasters offering food samples and giving grilling tips and trends. On Sunday, December 2, more than 50 restaurants will serve up signature sweet and savory bites at the 6th annual Grand Tasting Pavilion benefiting SOME (So Others Might Eat). A Made in DC pavilion will showcase local specialty food manufacturers. A new event this year will be a Holiday Gingerbread House Competition at which local professional and amateur bakers will showcase their creations and vie for prizes including “People’s Choice”.

Johnna is currently a regular contributor to the FOX Baltimore Weekend morning show.
