Where to Order Your Wings Before the Big Showdown Tonight.

20161014_122606Football season (and apparently election season) means wings on top of wings, which is why I took the opportunity to visit the new Wingstop in Waldorf, MD.  Going in with expectations of fast food under heating lamps, I was surprised to learn how many things were made from scratch on the premises.  Wingstop is more like fast food done right where it can be ordered on the go but you know it has not been sitting around for hours after being made.  Tips for ordering?  See my findings below:

  1. Order ahead.  It takes 18-20 per order so if you really want the “fast food” effect you have to order ahead via phone or online (wingstop.com).
  2. The mild, lemon pepper and garlic parmesan flavors are a must for your order. The restaurant makes five of its 13 flavors from scratch and these are three of the five.
  3. Baked rolls. These baked yeast rolls are thick pillows of moist, buttery bread.  One will cost you 180 calories but it is worth it.  Trust me.
  4. The hand-cut fries. They make these from scratch daily.
  5. Honorable mention: the veggie sticks.  After all these guilty pleasures, these will make you feel good about your dietary choices.  Pair with Wingstop housemade Ranch dressing.

20161014_111315Things to avoid?  The lemon pepper and parmesan garlic seasoned fries.  These seasonings only seem to work on the wings where you can actually taste their flavor attributes.  Also, avoid the cheese sauce, which is basically melted Cheese Whiz.

Let the games (and debates) begin!
