Pennsylvania 6 Joins the D.C. Dining Scene

[ 0 ] December 3, 2015 |

Pennsylvania 6 opened in  D.C. in what I like to call “good real estate”* along the I Street NW strip.  The newly revamped space was the home of Tuscana West, which closed last year after 20 years of being in business.  Pennsylvania 6 has the clout to fill these veteran shoes where it has been successful in the New York and Philadelphia restaurant markets.  The problem that usually ensues with restaurants coming to D.C. from New York are Washingtonians go for completely different scenes than New Yorkers.  Washingtonians are here for the food more than the scene versus a New York restaurant can survive on its pure exclusionary rule of only letting in certain individuals.

Fried Oysters

Pennsylvania 6 has the goods on the food.  The menu covers all the American upscale dining food groups, steaks, seafoods and a culmination of the usual suspect of side dishes.  They cover all the usual territory but with such flavor and precision in cooking that you will want to fulfill your next burger craving here.  On a JKGF run down of the menu,  we handpicked (literally) three things you should try on your visit.  Check it out:

  1.  Fried oysters.  Lightly battered and paired with a hot sauce and creamy spiced aioli sauce, you will not lose with these beginners.
  2. The steak.  When you order medium, they actually follow instructions.  Some places in D.C. have forgotten how to do this…
  3. Potted Chicken Liver.  Rich.  Know that you are going to have a very rich flavor when you nab this one.  Totally the way to go if you are in to this sort of thing.

D.C., welcome the new kid on the block.  We have an idea that we will be spending a lot of time around these parts in the coming days, weeks, months.

*”Good real estate” is any place that has housed the same business for over a 10 year period.
