SweetPots Mason Jar’d Desserts

A few weeks back while we weren’t too concerned about our figure we bumped into Tracie Thompson, owner of SweetPots Mason Jar’d Desserts. Working out of the Union Kitchen Ivy City location, we found out a few things about not only her company but also discovered our favorite flavor, Honey Bourbon Carrot Cake.

#1 Tracie Knows How To Bake

We know, we know mason jars? But yes, it works and not only does it work, Tracie executes it perfectly. Moist cakes with whipped frosting layered delicately in between is delightful.

#2 The Flavors are Out-of-Sight

We’ve been a sucker for carrot cake since we were young, so the fact that SweetPots has a Honey Bourbon Carrot Cake blew us away. Read that again. Honey. Bourbon. Carrot. Cake. It’s the grown-up edition and it rocks. What makes it so good? Picture a base of crumbled, honey graham crackers covered in a honey bourbon icing, only to be followed by a spiced carrot cake. Repeat. And finally when you get to the very top, a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar!

Other flavors include: Chocolate Bliss, Red Velvet, Deep Black Forest, Chunky Apple, and Strawberries & Cream.

#3 Locally Made

If you haven’t heard about Union Kitchen yet, where have you been? A culinary incubator for entrepreneurs, they recently opened their second location in Ivy City, a neighborhood that is catching the attention of many in the food industry. Tracie, a mother of five, was told by her daughter to try her hand at a baking business and she did. Since then her desserts have been making waves throughout the DMV. Here are a few locations you can find her SweetPots sold individually.

  • Spoon Dessert Cafe in Adams Morgan, DC
  • Glen’s Garden Market in Dupont Circle, DC
  • Local Market in Falls Church, VA (coming soon)
  • Avenue 54 Restaurant in California, MD (coming soon)
