Where I’m Eating: Blackwall Hitch

I have discovered my new people watching spot and it is in Virginia.  Good food, bridal shops and waterfront views have been my main motivation for crossing the bridge from the District to Virginia over the years.  Blackwall Hitch has joined the ranks of reasons to leave D.C. on any given afternoon for food and drinks.  Besides having four spacious bars and two outdoor patios, one of which is for you to bring along your pup, Blackwall has this serene ocean vibe that makes you feel like you are on vacation.  Anchors and rustic are the two words to describe the décor inside the restaurant, which aims to honor the heritage of the Cheseapeake Bay.

About the food?   Chef Michael Wagner leads the team at Blackwall Hitch and based on first meal impressions, he does not seem like the type to keep the same items on the menu for very long.  Seasonal seems to be the motivation behind the menu options, which is why I will not specifically suggest what you should order.  On my visit soft shell crabs were in season and Chef Wagner mastered the balancing act of providing a crispy crust without over coating the crabs which can mask their meaty attributes.  I suggest you get in there to take in the views, order something seasonal and sip on one their fruity cocktails.  For a split second, you will feel like you are still on your summer family vacation without the baggage.

P.S. Blackwall Hitch is celebrating Alexandria Live Music Week (July 10-19) throughout the entire month of July.  See below.
