The Gibson is one of my all time favorites in the city for craft cocktails.  They take the business very serious.  It intrigues me every time!  This Summer, the U Street speakeasy has put together a new menu with cocktail titles that will entice you to try them simply because of their names.  We stopped by to do some research for you and tag the top picks so you do not have to do the heavy lifting.  It was a hard job but someone had to do it.  What we found…

  1. Quick & Easy: This should be the official summer drink.  Light with tons of citrus to cover up the potency of this cocktail, which features El Dorado 151.
  2. Summertime: A recipe that began with Tequila Cabeza and the “ingredients get weirder from there”, this should be the official summertime martini.
  3. Playing Dirty: A JKGF favorite, which is probably obvious based on the use of George Dickle White Whiskey.  Think the Gibson’s version of a Dirty Martini.
  4. The Shotgun Shack: This is the tea for adults.  Notes of cucumber and garnishes of lime remind you of summer with a solid Michter’s Rye.
  5. No Apologies: Begin the night here.  Orange Bitters and Michter’s American Whiskey combine with some other goodies to start the drinking games off on the right foot.

P.S. The Gibson has a few light treats on board now to soak up the libations.  The grilled cheese should make you happy.
