Where I’m Eating: Bastille in Alexandria, VA

Spring equals weather worth standing in line for patio seating.  Lucky for the Washington, D.C. area, there are no shortage of places to soak up Vitamin D while dining on some of the areas best bites and sips.  Recently, we took a trip to Alexandria to check out the new digs at Bastille, a restaurant boasting a contemporary spin on French cuisine.  We like the spin they are taking on some of their appetizers and wanted to share our top three findings.  Here are three dishes to add to your roster on your visit:

IMG_7334 (2)Tuscarora beets & arugula salad:  If you are a beet lover, this is your dish.  Unlike some places that skimp on the beets, Bastille makes this the glue that connects the sandwich of greens, cheese and walnuts.

“Frog”wings:  These should be taste tested on their name alone, especially is you boast the word “foodie” when talking about your dining out experience.  Served with a smoky espelette sauce and Roquefort dip, the wings will need them to give them life.

Beignets of Rock Shrimp:  A creative spin on an old favorite, the Beignets add just a hint of shrimp so that you still remember what you came for, which is the breading.  Served with a harissa aioli, the Beignets of Rock Shrimp works well when trying to share an appetizer.

Patio?  Check.  Decent Parking Situation?  Check.  Things worth noshing on with your best happy hour friend while soaking up the sun?  Check.
