Etiquette Tuesday: The Biggest Flirt.

Last year was the year of engagements.  One of the main things I learned about engagements to be married is that everyone knows that the lady is spoken for, but no one can obviously tell that the man is spoken for in these engagements.  Recently, I attended a party full of singles and couples, which sparked the need for discussion on the topic of etiquette for the flirt.  Attending a party on a weekend night with good-looking folks in the room invites one to scope out their pick of the litter for dating purposes.  Without a ring on a man’s finger and if his soon-to-be wife is not standing directly beside him could leave one to think this is simply a single individual for the choosing.

The etiquette tip here is:  observe before you act.  Observing before you act is basically saying pay attention to the body language and conversation the individual is giving off before you whip out the cell phone for those digits.  There are plenty of times that I see guys trying to hit on women that clearly have on engagement/wedding rings and I am thinking if you would take a second to stop staring at her dairy air, you might see she is already spoken for based on the bling on her left ring finger.  The same goes for women when you see a guy at a party with another woman.  Check out their body language or even ask the hostess if they are together before you go in for the kill.  Putting the moves on someone with their significant other standing right there can change the vibe for the night.

The dating world can be tricky and it gets even trickier deciphering between who is in a relationship and who is not without a clear symbol such as a ring.  Body language and dialogue is the way to go when you are in these party scenes.  Observation is the key to keeping tension out of the space and maintaining good vibes.  As Kendrick Lamar said “B****, Don’t Kill My Vibe”.
