Good Deed Tuesday: Yes! Cents for Change

Miriam’s Kitchen is an initial beneficiary of Yes! Organic Market’s new “Yes! Cents for Change” program. This initiative will donate five cents to local non-profit organizations each time customers shop with their own grocery bags.

“Miriam’s Kitchen and Yes! Organic Market both know the value of fresh food and sustainable practices,” said Chef Emily Hagel, Director of Kitchen Operations at Miriam’s Kitchen. “Fresh food brings our chronically homeless guests into our dining room, and sustainable practices allow us to manage our resources responsibly. Those shared values make Yes! Organic Market an ideal partner for us and for our guests.”

The “Yes! Cents for Change” program officially kicked off July 1. Miriam’s Kitchen has joined fellow non-profits, Washington Animal Rescue League, Rock Creek Conservancy, and Studio Theatre’s Arts Motivating Youth Program for the first six-month phase of the initiative, with each organization benefitting equally. Beginning in January 2015, Yes! Organic Market will select four new organizations to support. Each six-month cycle will benefit organizations working in the areas of: 1) animal welfare; 2) environment; 3) education/youth; 4) human services.
