On the Run: Enterprise CarShare (Sponsor)

photo 1 (17)A new way to get around.  Enterprise CarShare is one of the many reasons having a car in the District is not essential.  After getting through the loop holes of signing up online, waiting for my membership card in the mail and figuring out how the whole key to car process works, I was pleased with the outcome.  The CarShare program works like this:

  1. You sign up online to establish an account with deets on your address, card info, etc.
  2. They mail the membership card to you, which is what you will use to scan into any car you use in the program.  This takes about a week or so.
  3. Go online and reserve the time and location that you want to pick up the car.
  4. Get your car by scanning the membership card along the top of the windshield until the light blinks green.
  5. The doors will unlock and the keys are in the car alongside any other essentials for your trip i.e. garage openers, parking lot passes (*the email confirmation when you make your reservation will indicate whether you should look out for any of these things in your car).
  6. Drive your car!
  7. Return the vehicle to the space where you picked it up, leave the keys in the glove compartment and lock the doors by swiping the membership card along the windshield until the light turns red.

Easy enough?  For rates as low as $5 an hour, this is the ideal way to make that Costco trip when you need to without investing in a car payment and a car that will get the true bump and grind of the District.  I used this on my trip to the National Harbor for a food event and it came in handy because I rely on the train for almost everywhere I go (*no trains at the National Harbor…le sigh).  The CarShare program has over 80 locations around the city so catch the train, pick up your whip and run this town!  Road trip anyone?

You can sign up by visiting www.enterprisecarshare.com/joindc, and learn more by going to the Enterprise CarShare Facebook page, or by following @carshare on Twitter.

Disclosure: Enterprise CarShare provided me with a gift card for my trip as a thank you for writing this post. However, the views and opinions expressed here are purely my own.
