Drinks on Me: Cocktail Fun at the Gibson

[ 0 ] March 21, 2014 |

To date, the Gibson has been identified has a speakeasy bar and lounge that serves unique cocktails. You would’ve never heard me say this though. Being the “go out, have dinner and all drinks at the same place” kinda girl that I am, I had heard of the bar but had never been. As of now I can say that judging by the explosion of drinks that were debuted this past Tuesday evening, even as a first timer, I completely agree. Unique cocktails, indeed! The six cocktails that I had the pleasure of having were all over the board when it came to flavor, strength, ingredients, and even the names. Each drink had its own personality. Here they are in the order they were tasted:

Things I Still Remember  – Kappa Pisco, Yellow Chartreuse, Lemon Juice, Simple Syrup, Egg White, Ginger Ale
*You can barely taste the alcohol in this drink, which some might see as dangerous. By the end of the 2nd glass, you probably won’t care because it tastes so good. A definitely great play on a Pisco Sour.

Rustin – George Dickel Tennessee Whiskey, Averna, Honey, Lemon Juice, Orange Juice, Hellfire Bitters, Aromatic Bitters
*If you love the smell/taste of bourbon, then this is for you.

Dungeon’s Brew – Cruzan Rum, Leopold Fernet, Simple Syrup, Lime Juice, Mint, Bell’s Kalamazoo Stout
*One could call this drink a black Mojito: very minty and a bit floral.

The Blood of Kings – Old Overholt Rye Whiskey, Red Wine, Lime Juice, Simple Syrup
*I’d like to think of this one as a fancy sangria cocktail.

Frank Underwood (yes, in honor of House of Cards!) – Malort, Apple Brandy, Kummel, Campari, Lemon Juice
*This one here is very dry, somewhat bitter, & very aggressive; may remind you of Indian food with cumin, coriander, and fennel qualities

Glam – House Infused Banana/ Vanilla Vodka, Orange Juice, Raspberry, Chocolate Champagne
*Who doesn’t love champagne cocktails? The banana/vanilla infused vodka give this drink a creamy undertone and delicious flavor. I felt like I was drinking a light dessert.

My top three favorites of the night were Things I Still Remember, Glam, and The Blood of Kings. You can view the full cocktail menu here, courtesy of UrbanDaddy. Hats off to the Gibson and their amazing two bartenders Frank & Frank (yes, they both have the same names :]). As a bar who serves only drinks, this hidden gem has succeeded in making each cocktail an extension of all great things culinary, instead of just an alcoholic beverage that’s made to compliment a dish.
