Alba Osteria Margherita Pizza

I love what is going on around Mount Vernon square.  New faces, spaces and places are emerging in Mount Vernon to dine out at providing an option outside its bustling Chinatown neighbor.  Alba Osteria is one of those refreshing spaces where it is hidden from the public eye of Massachusetts Avenue, but puts you in the vicinity to easily cab it home after lots o’ wine at Alba.  The restaurant décor invites you in and allows you bring in more than a plus one.  Spacious with the bar planted in the center of the dining room, Alba Osteria steers visitors to think happy hour before sitting down for dinner.  What to order?  Deets:

For Starters:  The Subric Fritters (eggplant fritters) were a pleasant surprise.  Expecting the worse because I am not an eggplant lover, these small morsels of potatoes crouched in flavor gave me a change of heart.

Pizza:  When one is on this side of town, Alba Osteria’s margherita pizza is worth the visit.  Made in their wood fired oven, this pizza is delivered Neapolitan style to your table.  Simple but delicate, this has to be one of Chef Roberto Donna’s secret family recipes.

Pasta:  I like to think if I can remember the taste of a dish (in a positive way) after a few weeks, then I enjoyed it.  The Agnolotti Al Brasato is that dish where I can still remember the tender braised beef and bone marrow meeting in this pasta dish.
