Where I’m Eating: St. Elmo’s Fire

photo 1 (5)If you have been in DC as long as I have then you remember when the space that is currently occupied by El Centro D.F. was Third Edition.  Third Edition was a veteran in the District playing the main hangout for the cast of St. Elmo’s Fire (*One of my favorite movies!).  El Centro has made its mark in the District over the past couple of years so I accept this as a wise replacement for the veteran restaurant.  I visited the renewed location recently and love the massive amount of space that is offered at the Georgetown location.  Plenty of elbow room for me to refill my margarita glass.

The new location mirrors many of the same things you find at its original 14th Street sister site, but some newbies rest on the new menu including Iron Skillet Fajitas and new taco selections.  I kept it old school on my visit and stuck with the queso enchilada, which I cannot seem to get off my mind.  Perhaps it was the crema fresca or the tomatillo sauce that made this a staple in my memory.  Whatever it is, the one thing I can tilt my hat to El Centro on is consistency.  Though they have a new location in town, they manage to stay true to their staples that gave way to this new destination.  Do not forget to try their margaritas on your visit; they are worth the “fun” parking situation in Georgetown.
