Mi Cocina “off the menu” chile relleno

The arrival of Mi Cocina in the DC area garnered enough buzz from my Texas readers than those who frequent the Chevy Chase neighborhood, the new home of the restaurant.  Mi Cocina joined a long line of a few of my favorite places on Wisconsin Avenue.  After trying out the goodies of Jimmy Choo, Louis Vuitton and nabbing a nice Polo or two, a girl can build up quite an appetite.  Mi Cocina offers another set of my favorite things from the great state of Texas:  Tex-Mex cuisine.  As far as the DMV area goes, this is the closest a Texas native will get to their roots.  Unfortunately, this area is not hip to the traditional flavors of Tex-Mex cuisine.

Because I am a chile relleno junkie, I immediately frowned at the site of not seeing this on the menu.  In my world, a Tex-Mex or Mexican menu should not exist without a chile relleno dish…I had to ask “was this really true of Mi Cocina’s menu??…no chile relleno??”  The waitress informed me that Mi Cocina has “off the menu” options and the chile relleno was one of them.  The chile rellenos made it to the table and I was a happy camper.

The experience of Mi Cocina left me to wonder what other tasty flavors they are hiding behind those kitchen doors??  A little mystery never hurt anyone and I can appreciate a place that has what you want on deck even outside of the what meets the eye on their menu.  What is your favorite Tex-Mex dish??  I bet you they have it…on or off the menu.
