Where I’m Eating: Makoto

[ 0 ] September 5, 2013 |

There are some restaurants that are good but it is rare that I leave a restaurant and phenomenal rolls off the tongue with ease.  Makoto is that place.  Phenomenal service, phenomenal food and phenomenal setting.  Tucked in the MacCarther Boulevard neighborhood in a humble entryway, Makoto commands the attention of the true “foodie”.  Shoes off, cell phones off and 20 seats are the most captivating beginnings of this experience.  Plans of a quick meal and out the door should be left at the front door with nine courses that take their time in making it to the table.  Cozy and delightful was my most vivid memory of the evening.

I would love to go into some of my favorites of the night but with this team of chef’s comes ever changing artwork on the plate.  On this particular evening, I chose to go with the nine course pre-fixe menu ($70), which includes the Chef’s Choice of sushi and I strongly suggest letting the Chef choose.  The disclaimer I would throw out about Makoto is that this is not the place for the picky eater or the person that simply “likes a lot of food” versus the foodie (*believe me, there is a difference).  This is for the person that truly appreciates the dining experience versus having a to-go box at the end of every meal.

The question that comes at the end of almost every conversation I have about a restaurant is “Would You Return?”.  To Makoto??  Hello, my name is Johnna Rowe and I would return to Makoto everyday if my wallet would allow.  I am addicted.

*Why are there no pictures??  They do not allow cell phone use in the restaurant.  I love it!!
