A Taste of Hope

DSC_0010The sixteen local chefs and mixologists participating in the American Cancer Society’s Fit For Hope challenge are hard at work not only losing weight, but raising funds to help the cause and meet their own fundraising goals. Diners can support the cause by attending Taste of Hope, the American Cancer Society’s signature culinary, wine and spirits event featuring more than 50 of Washington DC’s most popular chefs, restaurants and beverage vendors on September 24.

Individual chefs and bartenders are also offering events and specials to help meet their goals. Here’s a quick list of ways diners can pitch in:

Victor Albisu and Will Artley
Battle of the Bulges 5-Course Dueling Summer Menu at Pizzeria Orso

  • Monday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m.
  • Price: $80 all-inclusive (tax and tip) with wine pairings

Derek Brown and Todd Thrasher
Shake It Off Party

  • Monday, Aug. 19, 6:30pm-close at the PX
  • Monday, Aug. 26, 5-9pm at the Passenger
  • Derek Brown and Todd Thrasher will bartend together
  • Expect great cocktails, Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger,” athletic gear and trash talk
  • Aug. 19 is the PX’s 7th, so expect to toast to seven years of cocktail magic

Scott Drewno
Chinese and Thai cooking classes

  • Saturday, Sept. 7, 11am-1 pm (Chinese)
  • Saturday, Sept. 2, 11am-1 pm (Thai)
  • At each class, Chef Drewno will demonstrate three favorite recipes gleaned from his extensive travels in Asia as well as methods for low-calorie and healthy cooking
  • Price: Both classes are priced at $75, and include a glass of sparkling wine and a family style luncheon after the lesson. $25 of every ticket will be donated to the American Cancer Society for Chef Scott Drewno’s Fit For Hope Challenge

Mike Isabella

  • Graffiato’s Aug. 5 Industry Takeover event with Victor Albisu (Del Campo, Taco Bamba), Tony Starr (Bandolero) and Timothy Spinner (La Calaca Feliz, Cantina Feliz, Taqueria Feliz) will benefit American Cancer Society’s Fit for Hope. Tickets are $10, with $5 going to the charity
  • Also at Graffiato, $2 from each sale of the new G Sandwich Shop Roasted Turkey and Chicken Salad sandwiches (available on the lunch menu) will benefit Fit for Hope
  • G Opens on Friday, July 26. On its first day of operation, all sandwiches will be sold for $5 (regular price $9-$14) with proceeds going to Chef Isabella’s fundraising campaign

Farm Dinner at Ripple

  • Wednesday, Sept. 4
  • Limit to 55 tickets
  • Price: $75 inlcuding beverage pairings. $50 goes to Fit for Hope
  • Rappahannock Oysters, a Summer Vegetable Salad, Cherry Glen Farms Goat Cheese Ravioli, Poached Tilefish and a  Roasted Peach Gallette

Frederik De Pue

  • At Azur, a special dish of Vegetable Crudites is available now through Aug. 24 The heart healthy dish includes market vegetables, quinoa, radish sprouts, green goddess and is available daily at dinner
    Price: $18. $5 goes to American Cancer Society
  • At Table, a dish of Guinea Hen with baby fennel and mango poivrade will help the chef meet his fundraising goals.  The dish is available every day for dinner
    Price: $27. $5 goes to American Cancer Society

Art Smith

  • At Art and Soul, they are serving a dish of Wester Ross Salmon with quinoa salad and marinated cucumber & tomato
  • Price: $26. $1 goes to American Cancer Society
