Budget dining is my new thing.  Budget dining that is, however, where the food does not taste like its on a budget if you get my drift.  That is what Bobby Flay brings to the DC area with his latest venture, Bobby’s Burger Palace.  The restaurant takes on a retro appeal with earthy tones and winding tables reminding you of scenes from the 1970’s.  The throwback appeal fits into the old age American burger which is on the entire menu with a few perks and quirks.  The menu derives from Bobby’s travels and interpretations of cuisine found in the United States most popular cities.

The Miami and Napa Valley burgers ranked closest to their native towns tastes with the Philadelphia burger blatantly lacking the flavors from the city of Brotherly Love.  With a choice of turkey, beef or chicken for each sandwich, there is no need to feel like your left out if you don’t like red meat.  I will warn you, however, to be careful in switching out the beef for chicken.  This did a disservice to one of the sandwiches which would have otherwise been delicious with beef.  If your feeling adventurous (*and calories do not count), then go all the way with the “crunch” addition, which is where the restaurant adds potato chips inside your sandwich.

A burger craving is enough to send you to the Foggy Bottom neighborhood but the happy hour will make you a regular.  For $5, you can take back a few Cactus Pear Margaritas or one of their potent Vanilla Caramel Bourbon milkshakes.  With burgers, $5 Margaritas and adult milkshakes, Bobby’s has it all figured out.  My only question is:  when can we get a New York burger on that menu??  Until, I think I have enough options to appease my pallet.
