So’s Your Mom Knish

Leave it to Girl Meets Food to find knishes in the District.  Knishes are familiar to the New York state of mind with plenty of places to nab one, two or three.  DC has limited options but I was happy to discover the flaky treat hiding out in Adams Morgan So’s Your Mom deli.  Originating out of the Ukranian word kynsh, the Yiddish word knish means a type of bun, which is often fried or baked and stuffed with a filling such as mashed potatoes or ground meat.  I plopped down outside of So’s Your Mom with a mashed potato filled knish paired with spicy mustard and realized I missed the melting pot of New York.

Though DC has an abundance of cultures, I want to see the influx of cuisines match the diverse population.  The warm, flaky crust took me back to times of picking up random cart vendor treats on the streets of New York.  Lucky for me So’s Your Mom has a knack for the treat.  If only the parking in Adams Morgan were more amenable to my lifestyle, I would eat probably eat a knish on a daily basis.
