Brunch!: Boqueria

Churros Rellenos

Visiting the edge of Dupont Circle (runs into Farragut North) neighborhood on the weekends is like taking a trip to a ghost town.  You would not think you were in downtown Washington, DC if you were here on a Sunday afternoon.  Many restaurants and local businesses are closed in this neighborhood on weekends so there is no foot traffic and there’s a plethora of parking.  For these reasons, this may be my new brunch destination.  I visited Boqueria a few weeks ago with a friend and found:  plenty of parking, a menu filled with cheese & prosciutto and no waiting for a table.  I am in love.  For a person that works non-stop Monday-Friday, brunch is one of my favorite pastimes on the weekend especially where it is not preceded by the hassle of parking or waiting 30 minutes for table.

Datiles con Beicon

Boqueria joined the Dupont Circle neighborhood in early 2012 after successful openings in the Flatiron and Soho New York neighborhoods.  Inspired by the tapas bar scene in Barcelona, Boqueria boasts a market fresh menu alongside Spanish tapas bar staples.  Since brunch was on the brain, I wanted my savory self to meet up with my sweet self on the palate.  Boqueria was in tune with this notion.  Datiles con Beicon (*Dates stuffed with almonds and Valdeon, wrapped in bacon) was a circus for the mouth with the sugar nearly dripping off the bacon but the bacon was able to hold up its end of the bargain with a smoky balance.

Huevos Benedictos

Anyone that reads this blog or has had brunch with me knows I ALWAYS get the Benedict on the menu.  Boqueria was no exception and their Huevos Benedictinos topped with Serrano Ham has to be one of the best I have had in DC this year.  Though eggs Benedict may seem like anyone should be able to do it, just the opposite is true.  Boqueria was able to cook the eggs to the temperature where the eggs are still runny but not taking on the firmness of a boiled egg center.  Perfection.  The pitcher of Bars & Stars Sangria (*Iced Tea, Manzanilla Sherry, Rosemary Vodka, and Lemon Syrup) and Churros Relleno (*for those with a Nutella obsession) rounded out a brunch fitting for a hungry queen.

Croquetas Cremosas

It was refreshing to visit a brunch with new ideas and attention to local, seasonal ingredients.  Mimosas are nice and bottomless is cool but what about some good food in a tranquil space while sipping Bars & Stars?  Sounds like some new weekend plans in the works.

I thought that said “Deities con Bacon.” Which isn’t too off the mark–bacon is godly.

    Bacon is delish!
