Wit & Wisdom

Yours Truly & the GMC Terrain

In need of a quick getaway with girlfriends and not much money, Baltimore seemed like a viable option.  We loaded up the GM Terrain and headed toward the Four Seasons in Baltimore for a night away.  Though the name, Baltimore, does not scream beaches, palm trees and sexy, the Four Seasons in Baltimore yells sexy at the top of its lungs.  Tucked neatly in the Baltimore Harbor East neighborhood, the Four Seasons makes you feel like times spent in Miami or Vegas poolside.  If my glance up to the left toward the Domino Sugar sign had not reminded me I was in Baltimore, I would have gotten lost in the moment.

A trip with three people that adore food especially when it involves a team behind the lead of Michael Mina means plenty of eating.  In 24 hours, sake, “deconstructed chicken” (see Girl Meets Food for further clarification) and Wit & Wisdom stuffed me to no avail.  Michael Mina chose the right name for his modern American tavern in the Four Seasons Baltimore with the menu exuding plenty of wisdom with a witty charm.  Wit & Wisdom, like many other restaurants in this area, has a booming happy hour/dinner scene with brunch offering a more serene dining experience.

Lobster Corn Dogs

Michael Mina’s restaurant in the Four Seasons Georgetown, Bourbon Steak, is known for its lobster corn dog, which I have never had the opportunity to try.  Wit & Wisdom gave me a second chance to see what all the hype was about around this lobster corn dog.  Well worth the attention, the sweet threads of fried breading on top lumps of lobster took me back to my childhood.  Because the table was full of food vacuums, the lobster corn dogs were just the beginning of what was followed by:

Maryland Crab Deviled Eggs

Maryland Crab Deviled Eggs,

Beignets

Beignets,

Maryland Crab Benedict

Maryland Crab Benedict,

Rabbit Sausage

Grilled Rabbit Boudin Sausage

Shrimp & Grits

& Anson Mills Antebellum Shrimp & Grits.

The Jumbo Lump in the Maryland Crab Benedict was not an exaggeration with chunks the size of a newborns fist topping the muffins.  I do not know what I was expecting when trying the Rabbit Sausage but the taste did not stray far from the pork and chicken sausage families.

Anson Mills Grits

Anson Mills grits never disappoint:  Always consistently creamy, always thick and if done right, always good.  The coarse grits topped with the slightly charred shrimp is the reason I almost always opt for this entrée.

It’s no surprise they had to roll me out of the restaurant.  Wit & Wisdom is one of those places that are worth a 45-minute trek up 95 north.  Classic American flavor with a few twists and turns.  When there are lobster corn dogs on the menu, how can you resist taking in a little Wit & Wisdom?
