NY, NY: International Ferralle Exhibition

It’s not very often that I attend an event where I feel as though I have been transported to another space and time. From the moment I landed at the International Ferralle Exhibition at the Wook & Lattuada Gallery in New York, I knew that I was in for a special treat. Ferrarelle, the renowned Neapolitan water company based in Italy partnered with Claudio Falcone, a contemporary Italian artist to present an exhibition which showcased the marriage of Italian Artistic Expression and Culinary Experiences.  Italian Art & Culture are inextricably bound and as they are both the most intimate expressions of Italian Culture.

Mr. Falcone’s neorealistic  photography certainly set the perfect tone for the Ferrarelle Exhibition.  As each of his black and white photo’s captured intimate daily moments in Italian Life, some of which included Guance della Verita’ (Cheeks of truth) a young child enjoying assorted antipasti  and another photo Cena Frugale (Simple meal), which highlighted the simplicity of  Italian Food.  After spending a few moments admiring the artist’s linkage between food and artistic expression, I had certainly worked up an appetite so I headed over to the other side of the gallery to check out the food. Let’s just say that I left with Cheeks of truth as they expanded each moment that I shoveled another piece of Parmigiano and arancini( fried rice ball) in my mouth.

Here are some of the highlights of my culinary experience:

Ferrarelle: I tried their carbonated water or as the Italian’s would say the water with gas. It had a very smooth and soft after taste.  I was pleasantly surprised.

All of the cheeses were amazing: The Parmigiano was nutty and it reminded me of the wonderful cheeses I ate while living in Italy. Also the mozzarella was perfect; it was not too salty and very fresh

Prosciutto

I wish I ate prosciutto but from the expressions of all the guests at the event it looked like I was definitely missing out.  The folks from Zio Restaurant were slicing it up freshly for each guest.

Overall this was an amazing experience and it certainly had me wishing I could jump on the next flight to Italy but for now I will just hop on the train and perhaps I may visit this exhibition once again.
