Three Cheers for Finally Finding an Alternative!

[ 2 ] May 30, 2012 |

I wouldn’t call myself a proclaimed health-nut but over the past couple of years, I have become more conscious about what I eat. I’m also still a true believer of the motto “Eat whatever you want, but do it in moderation.” Snacks have always been my weakness, including those in the chip category. Doritos and I have always had an on-again off-again relationship due to flavors, timing, and the overall fact that they’re unhealthy. Luckily, I’ve found something better. Blue Diamond Growers  came out with Nut Chips in early 2011 and although I’m a bit over a year behind and was slightly skeptical at first, I’m more than happy to have an alternative.

Not only are Nut Chips baked, but they’re also made with whole-grain brown rice and almonds. On top of that, they’re both wheat- and gluten-free. These chips have less saturated fat, less calories, and a lot more nutrients than potato chips, which to me, makes them trump Doritos any day. I can eat them without being guilty and know that I’m consuming food that’ll add to my whole grain daily requirement.

I can hear you thinking “How do they taste?” and “What are the flavors?” As of right now, there are three flavors: Nacho, Sea Salt, and Sour Cream & Chive. The Nacho Nut Chips remind me immensely of Nacho Doritos, making me a biased customer. These are flavored with cheddar cheese & spices for a great nacho flavor. The Sour Cream & Chive Nut Chips are true to their assigned taste: boldly packed with tangy sour cream and the essence of chives. The Sea Salt Nut Chips are mild and still tasty with a dash of sea salt. Not only are these triangular chips good for the taste buds, they are also a winner in Clean Eating Magazine’s First Annual Foodie Awards.

If you’re like me, meaning you have a love for Doritos like me but you love the unexpected alternatives that aren’t only healthy but also delicious, then this wonderful snack called Nut Chips is definitely for you.

  1. I’m a sucker for Doritos but avoid them for the same reason. These nacho chips sound dangerous!
