Lost Society

Pan Seared Scallops

Every once and awhile a spot like Lost Society comes to the District.  Let’s just say a spot that fits a young, urbanites lifestyle.  Lost Society is that all-in-one spot where you can start your night at happy hour, grab dinner, have more drinks with friends in a lounge setting and return for Sunday brunch to find a mellow dining room.  I literally did this one weekend by celebrating a friends birthday there on a Saturday night and then returning there for brunch the next morning with another friend.  How convenient?  I should have just set up a palate on the floor and made a real weekend out of it (*J/K just kidding).

The drinks and food at Lost Society do not shout anything outside the norm in the District, rather it is the vibe and convenience of this spot that makes it my number one for the moment.  After trying appetizers, entrees and brunch dishes, I am most impressed by the brunch.  Simple with a few unexpected cameos, the pan seared scallops and Red Oak salad were the stars of the show.

Red Oak Salad

The Red Oak, surprisingly, is my favorite dish at the restaurant and I know what you might be thinking: it’s just a salad. No, this is not just a salad, this is “the” salad…I have not stopped thinking about it since I had it a few weeks ago (*I know, I have weird obsessions…).  Though Lost Society is most notable for being a steakhouse, this spot really shines with their simple side dishes/appetizers with smart touches.

Blackened Shrimp over Wild Rice Risotto

After much toil in the office, many urbanites in the city are simply looking to eat and drink with good conversation on a random weeknight.  This is where Lost Society foots the bill as taking the lead for the “afterwork” spot.  After venturing there on a solo mission to really get the digs on this spot, I have literally invited every friend I have to either have dinner, drinks or brunch here.  Though I was not lured in by dynamic cocktails or an exquisite tasting menu, I would say this spot has a good balance of what I look for in afterwork festivities. Now if they would bring that crab mac n’ cheese back to the menu, they might have a runner up spot in some of my other categories…

I regret not going there, instead of the crappy pizza joint across the street.
