WINE DOWN

The 2011 New York City Wine & Food Festival takes place on September 29-October 2, 2011.  Buitoni is the official sponsor for the festival this year and is giving away two tickets to the festival and a trip for two to NYC.  Additionally, other prizes will be awarded including complimentary Buitoni frozen meals for two and Buitoni Riserva Refrigerated Pasta.  If you’re like me and want the trip to the wine festival, then do the following: Tweet @Buitoni, tag #NYCWFF #BuitoniTonight and say (*or show via picture) how you “beautify your mealtime”.  All who tell (*or show…) with the above instructions are automatically entered for a chance to win.  Official rules here.  Contest ends September 1, good luck!

Wine in the Water Park returns for five Friday evenings in September beginning September 2-30, 2011 @ 7 pm-10 pm.  Usher in the Fall with free admission, $5 wine selected by the Washington Wine Academy, $4 beer and free snacks from Jaleo.  The Water Park is located across from 1750 Crystal Drive.

In addition to the opening of his new burger joint, Bobby’s Burger Palace, Chef Bobby Flay has a new cookbook entitled Bobby Flay’s Bar Americain Cookbook.  The acclaimed grill master and chef is making his rounds in the Nation’s Capitol with his next stop @ Sixth & I on September 21 @ 7:30 pm.  The program will last approximately 45 minutes and conclude with Q&A and a book signing.  Tickets are $40, which includes a copy of the book.

Chef’s Barbara and Jeff Black have teamed up with the Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Complex and Dr. Fran Cogen, MD of the Children’s National Medical Center to help raise money for juvenile diabetes.  To launch their fundraising efforts, Black Restaurant Group will host a pre-opening bash for their new restaurant, Pearl Dive Oyster Palace & Black Jack, with proceeds from the evening helping to meet their goal of $200,000 to build a state-of-the-art kitchen at the Washington Nationals Diabetes Care Complex at the Children’s National Medical Center.  Tickets are $30 in advance and $40 on the day of the event (September 10, 2011, 6 pm-1:30 am).  More info here.

Ping Pong Dim Sum opens in Dupont.  The official grand opening celebration is on Thursday, September 15, 2011 from 7 pm-11 pm.  Tickets are $35, which includes open bar and passed hors d’oeuvres.  More info here.

1789 has appointed Anthony Lombardo as the Executive Chef to begin on August 31, 2011.  Chef Lombardo comes from Casa Nonna where he was the executive sous chef since its opening in August 2010. Kudos!
