Etiquette Tuesday: Frontline

Thanks to Girl Meets Food for this one.  I’ll get straight to the point: wait your turn.

Check the scenario: You’re at a crowded bar, you see your friend at the front of the line, you feel that #win sensation because now instead of a 20 minute wait, you could be sipping that Gin and tonic in less than 2 minutes.  You remember you have four friends standing right beside you who you have come with and all want to score drinks at the same time.  You motion for your friend at the front of the line to let you in, they give you the wave to come up and you motion your four friends along with you. STOP. This is where my etiquette tip of the week begins.

Now we all know the waiting game can be a bit gruesome and getting a pass to the front of the line is an awesome feeling to cut down the wait time.  The problem in this scenario is you cannot bring baggage when you get the pass, hookup or whatever you want to call it.  If you have more than you wanting to push their way to the front of the line, the proper way to handle this is to collect all the cash from your other friends and just purchase the drinks for them.  One body turning into six bodies in front of you in the long line can raise the temperament to at least the roll of an eye (*I am now letting you stand in the persons shoes who is standing behind your friend at the front of the line…).

There’s no need for the confusion or rudeness, it is the simple accomplishments such as this one that make going to a popular bar so great..seeing that one friend at the front of the line.  You do, however, need to be considerate…some of us are not so lucky and have waited our turn!  Also, you might want to be sure your friend at the front actually likes the four friends you’re bringing to the front, it would be awkward to have to “hookup” someone you really don’t like…but I’ll save that discussion for another Etiquette Tuesday…
