Food Round Up

[ 1 ] July 26, 2011 |

*Good News.  DC’s honest.  Check out the clip above from Honest Tea’s second experiment in the Nation’s Capitol.  The company set up shop in Dupont Circle at an unmanned pop-up store and posted up to see if a passerby would pay $1 for each bottle of the Honest Tea they took. A hidden camera was there to pick up all the traffic and finally gave D.C. an honesty percentage of 91 percent. This speaks volumes…

*Top Chef Master Marcus Samuelsson will be in D.C. next weekend on the Macy’s A Go Go Food Truck tour.  He will be appearing at the truck passing out his signature catfish sandwiches with fried caper slaw and sweet potato fries for Free. Get more info here.

*Unless you have been out of the city every weekend or working grueling hours in the office, then you should have spent a Friday evening with Jazz in the Garden.  To make the weekly event more appealing (as if it needed that), Redline is inviting Jazz in the Garden guests to the restaurant for a complimentary glass of champagne or draft beer. In order to receive the complimentary drink, concert attendees only need to tell the bartender who performed at Jazz in the Garden. The restaurant is hosting this event until September 10, 2011.  Just another reason to shake a tail feather in the District…they have DJ spinning top 40 hits too.

Are you in to Entourage on HBO?  If so, you might want to head back over to Redline on Sunday’s. The restaurant will have food and drink specials available from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., including a 20 percent discount on appetizers and the standard happy hour menu ($6 select wines, Sunshine on the Rocks, and Redline Lemonade; $5 well drinks; and $4 draft beers) throughout the last 8 episodes of the final season.

*DC Beer Week kicks off on August 14 with a ride along the Potomac.  More than 20 beers, a buffet, DJ and night views of the city…beer lovers this is calling your name.  Get more info here.

*I love a good cause. I also love Anthony Bourdain.  Can you see why I’m uber excited about the Capitol Food Fight?  The Capitol Food Fight is an event to support DC Central Kitchen, a kitchen that works 365 days a year to feed those in need, and features more than 60 restaurants providing guests with signature tastes.  The event will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center and tickets are $200 (get them here).

*There’s an App for that: EatItUpApp – a free, interactive tool for iPhone users, complete with games, recipes and a GPS-enabled store locator. The app, which is designed for Mid-Atlantic Region Whole Foods Market customers, supports seasonal programs beginning with the Summer of Sausage (SOS) campaign (*a celebration of Whole Foods all natural, house-made sausages).  From how to cook-up a yummy bite to exciting contests and in-store promotions, the app is an ideal tool for every cook, foodie and techie.  Get the new App here.

*Fast food sushi comes to the District from the owners of Kaz Sushi Biwith their latest venture, Oh Fish!  Rolls are priced between $9-$10.  The Going Out Guide has more on this story here.
