The Coffee Shop

[ 0 ] April 6, 2011 |

Work and a coffee shop go together like a horse and carriage in my life.  It feels like it is the only way I will get anything accomplished where my house offers many great distractions.  To expand my workspace outside the parameters of Panera Bread (*I basically live here), I decided I should venture out to see what other WiFi friendly zones the District has to offer.  *Surprise look* What do you know? There’s a world outside those Panera doors…:

1. Pound.  Pound is my new favorite and I’m actively begging them to open their doors in every other neighborhood in DC.  Besides having the best falafel in the District and Nutella Lattes that should grace every coffee menu, the Capitol Hill coffee shop is an excellent place to have your laptop in tow.

2. Chinatown Coffee Co. is what I like to call the split personality.  Serious coffee crowd for the mornings turn absinthe lover by night.  With a new food truck line up that began last Thursday with Takorean, the coffee shop will host Thursday happy hours (6:30 pm-8:30 pm) with the areas most popular food trucks (*Red Hook Lobster this week 4/7/11).

3. U Street Cafe is one of my faves in the District, but it closes way to early!  4 pm?! Forreal people, I haven’t even digested my first cup of bold by that time.  On the good side, this place has some delicious menu items to choose from and on a nice day, it’s the place to people watch on U street with laptop in tow.

4.  Baked and Wired.  In addition to cupcakes about the size of my head, this cozy Georgetown hideout is worth the search for a parking space.  Think the Urban Outfitters of coffee shops with way more pastry’s…

5. Open City.  Disclaimer:  Open City is also a full out restaurant so maybe working on your dissertation is not a good idea but shooting out that pressing list of emails would be more appropriate here.  The apple cider and hot chocolate always make my day.
