Etiquette Tuesday: To Go Box, Please

There are no doggy bags at a reception.  Again, I repeat there are NO doggy bags at a reception.  Thanks to a fellow foodie for this week’s Etiquette Tuesday tip.  Thought I honestly would never have to go here but duty calls…It is inappropriate to smuggle the cocktail shrimp in your purse.  Point blank.  This does not matter how full the platter looks as you exit the building, they will find a way to reuse/discard those shrimp so no need to worry your little brain.  A reception is typically a place where guests are “recieved” by their host for celebration/an informative session/or some other reason that does not include the doggy bag mentality.

My fellow foodie alerted me to a guest at a recent cocktail party they attended where one of the guests attempted to smuggle the treats out with them.  Unfortunately, I have been guilty of this very act…when I was 19 and a hungry college student.  Now this is no excuse, but at least my rationale for snagging a few extra buffalo wings was because my budget only allowed for the school’s nasty cafeteria.  After the age of 25 (*which this person was well above…), this is absolutely unacceptable.  In most instances, if you are at a reception, this means there’s something honorable taking place.  Bagging shrimp in your clutch is not honorable.  Please do better and maybe eat something before you head to the reception if you feel you might turn klepto by the end of the night…
